AB 2582: Crimes: prostitution.

<p>This bill would amend the penal code to make committing prostitution with the intent to receive compensation a crime. A person convicted of this offense for the first or second time would be offered a diversion program. The program would provide an alternative to traditional prosecution and would aim to help individuals overcome underlying issues that may be contributing to their involvement in prostitution. Local officials would be required to establish and implement the diversion program. The state would be responsible for reimbursing local agencies and school districts for the costs associated with implementing the program, if the Commission on State Mandates determines that the program is mandated by the state.
