What AB 268 does, verified December 13, 2025

This bill would add "Diwali" to the list of state holidays in the state, allowing community colleges and public schools to close on this day. It would also authorize state employees and certain community college and public school employees to take time off with pay to celebrate Diwali. Additionally, public schools and educational institutions would be allowed to include exercises acknowledging and celebrating the meaning and importance of Diwali. The bill would also exclude Diwali from being designated as a judicial holiday.
