California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 20, 2026

What AB 2786 does, verified August 20, 2026

This bill aims to revise existing election code sections by replacing outdated references to "regular election date" with "established election date". It requires local elections officials to work together with other counties to establish deadlines for submitting arguments and measure text for local measures submitted to voters in special districts spanning multiple counties. The lead county's elections official must submit measure text, impartial analysis, and selected arguments to other counties within 24 hours of receiving the materials. The bill also includes nonsubstantive changes and requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for costs mandated by the state if the commission determines that the bill contains such costs.
