AB 289: State highway work zone speed safety program.
This bill establishes a state highway work zone speed safety program that allows the department of transportation to implement up to 35 speed safety systems on state highway construction or maintenance areas. The program will use speed safety systems to enforce speed limits in work zones and will only issue civil penalties for violations detected by the systems. The program will require the department to adopt written guidelines for the use of speed safety systems, consult with relevant state agencies and stakeholder organizations, and implement provisions similar to those in an existing pilot program. The department will also be required to submit reports to the legislature on the program's impact on safety and economic conditions.
