What AB 37 does, verified February 3, 2026

this bill would amend the business and professions code to expand the provisions allowing the furnishing of hypodermic needles and syringes. currently, a physician or pharmacist can furnish these items without a prescription to a person 18 years of age or older, and a person of the same age can obtain them from a physician or pharmacist for personal use. the bill would now also allow a delegee of a physician or pharmacist to furnish these items. this expansion would impose a state-mandated local program. no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason.
