AB 405: Fashion Environmental Accountability Act of 2025.
This bill aims to increase environmental accountability in the fashion industry. Fashion sellers must carry out effective environmental due diligence, which includes identifying and mitigating risks of societal and ecological harms. They must also publicly disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and establish a baseline for emissions reductions. Fashion sellers must ensure their products do not contain regulated chemicals above certain thresholds and must submit annual environmental due diligence reports. The bill establishes a fund to collect civil penalties and use the funds for implementing the act and environmental benefit projects.
