AB 464: Sexual assault in prison.
This bill aims to improve the handling of sexual assault allegations in prisons. It would toll the periods of limitation for bringing civil actions against public entities or employees who are alleged to have committed sexual assault while an inmate is imprisoned or in execution. This means that inmates can file claims without worrying about the statute of limitations expiring while they are in prison. The bill also prohibits employees who have been terminated for sexually abusing an inmate from future employment with the department. Additionally, it requires the department to monitor and investigate reports of sexual assault, provide specific notifications, and prevent the transfer of inmates who have suffered sexual assault without their consent.
