AB 543: Medi-Cal: field medicine.
The bill aims to amend the Medi-Cal program to provide field medicine services to individuals experiencing homelessness. The legislature intends for these services to coexist with existing Medi-Cal provisions. Medi-Cal managed care plans will be allowed to offer services through a field medicine provider, enabling members to receive care directly from an in-network provider. The plan must establish procedures to ensure timely communication between providers and prevent duplicate services. A method will be provided for members to inform the plan they are experiencing homelessness, and the department will notify plans of such status. Reimbursement will be made for field medicine services provided to Medi-Cal beneficiaries experiencing homelessness.
