AB 558: Alarm companies.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified February 3, 2026

What AB 558 does, verified February 3, 2026

The bill aims to amend the existing Alarm Company Act to expand the definition of an "alarm system" to include video systems. This change would allow video systems with analog or digital signals to be considered alarm systems, subject to the same regulations as traditional alarm systems. The bill would also impose a state-mandated local program to address any expanded scope of the existing crime. The bill does not require reimbursement for certain costs mandated by the state.
