AB 566: California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018: opt-out preference signal.
This bill prohibits businesses from developing or maintaining browsers that do not include an opt-out preference signal functionality. The signal allows consumers to send a request not to share their personal information with third parties. Businesses must make clear disclosures about the signal and its intended effect. The bill grants immunity from liability to businesses that include this functionality. The California Privacy Protection Agency will adopt regulations to implement and administer the provisions. This bill further the purposes and intent of the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020.
