AB 643: Climate change: short-lived climate pollutants: organic waste reduction.

This bill aims to reduce climate change by setting new standards for organic waste reduction. It establishes a goal to reduce landfill disposal of organics by 75% of the 2014 level by 2025. The bill requires the state to adopt regulations to achieve this goal in collaboration with the state air resources board. Local jurisdictions are authorized to count compost produced and procured from specified compost operations towards their waste reduction targets. The bill also introduces a new option for local jurisdictions to include organic material used as a beneficial agricultural amendment in their waste reduction targets.
