AB 696: Lithium-ion vehicle batteries: emergencies: advisory group.

The bill aims to improve emergency response to lithium-ion vehicle batteries. It requires the Office of the State Fire Marshal to convene an advisory group to review and advise on policies related to the safety and management of lithium-ion vehicle batteries in emergency situations. The advisory group must meet quarterly until July 1, 2028, and consult with relevant stakeholders, including universities, manufacturers, and first responders. By the end of 2028, the group must develop standards for responding to lithium-ion vehicle battery emergencies, based on local, state, and national guidance and research. These standards will help ensure safe and efficient response to lithium-ion vehicle battery emergencies. The provisions will expire on January 1, 2029.
