AB 741: Department of Justice: child abuse reporting.

This bill amends the penal code to require designated court-appointed special advocates (CASA) programs to submit fingerprints and related information of employment and volunteer candidates for a state and federal criminal history background check. The Department of Justice will monitor the child abuse central index and notify the CASA program if a record of a child abuse investigation involving a CASA employee or volunteer is added. The CASA program must request the Department of Justice to remove the notification for an individual who is no longer employed by or volunteering with the program, and the Department must terminate the notification upon receipt of the request. The bill authorizes the Department of Justice to increase its fee to cover the cost of processing subsequent notifications.
