AB 79: Public social services: higher education.
The bill aims to improve student success by enhancing collaboration between county human services agencies and institutions of public higher education. It requires county agencies to receive input from basic needs directors and coordinators when developing protocols for engagement with these institutions. The state will also develop a training program for staff on public social services topics and convene a workgroup to share best practices and address challenges. The bill also requires the state to submit a report to the legislature every three years, focusing on enrollment success trends and services available to students attending public higher education institutions. If the commission on state mandates determines that the bill contains mandated costs, the state will reimburse local agencies and school districts for those costs.
