AB 920: Permit Streamlining Act: housing development projects: centralized application portal.
The bill requires cities and counties with a population of 150,000 or more to create a centralized application portal for housing development projects on their websites. The portal must allow for tracking of application status and provide a fee estimate tool for applicants. Cities and counties have until January 1, 2030, to implement the portal, unless they take action by January 1, 2028, to initiate the process. The portal does not require the city or county to provide status updates for permits or inspections required by other agencies. The bill applies to all cities, including charter cities, and addresses a matter of statewide concern. Reimbursement is not required for costs mandated by the state for this specific act.
