This bill aims to improve visitation rights for juvenile court cases. At the initial petition hearing, the court must order visitation between the child and parent or guardian, setting a frequency and duration conducive to quality family time, and whether supervision is required. The court must also order contact within 72 hours. The bill removes the prohibition on visitation that jeopardizes the child's safety. Instead, the court can order supervised visitation unless it poses a risk to the child's physical or emotional health. Supervised visits require a factual basis and the court must assess potential supervisors. The court can liberalize unsupervised visitation, but only if it finds it would harm the child's safety.
