AB 93: Water resources: data centers.

A new law would require data center owners and operators to provide an estimate of their expected water use before applying for a business license or permit. This estimate must be provided to the water supplier under penalty of perjury. When renewing a license or permit, data center owners must also self-certify that they have provided the water supplier with a report of their annual water use. The law aims to address a matter of statewide concern by imposing water conservation measures on data centers. It also authorizes the state to create different tiers of data centers based on their water consumption and set standards for each tier. The law applies to all cities, including charter cities, and is intended to promote water conservation in the state.
