AB 969: CalWORKs: family violence option and gender-based violence information.
This bill aims to provide support to individuals who are or have been victims of domestic abuse or gender-based violence. It requires counties to waive program requirements for applicants or recipients who have been identified as victims of abuse, and to find good cause for a waiver when compliance would make it difficult for the individual or their children to escape or stay safe. The county must notify the applicant or recipient about the waiver decision and provide written materials and a standardized waiver request form to assist them in identifying and escaping abuse. The bill also requires the state to develop uniform written materials and a standardized waiver request form, and to notify the legislature when the automated welfare system can perform the necessary automation to implement the provisions.
