What SB 1033 does, verified June 1, 2026

This bill requires manufacturers and brand owners of protein products sold in the state to test a representative sample of each lot for heavy metals, starting January 1, 2028. The bill also requires brand owners to disclose heavy metal testing information to the public, including on the outermost package and product details page. Non-compliant protein products sold in the state after the deadline will be prohibited. Additionally, the bill creates a new crime and imposes a state-mandated local program.
