SB 1089: Preventive Treatment Health Care Act.

This bill requires partnerships between the California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHSA) and pharmaceutical companies to produce generic prescription drugs, including insulin and other medications, at production and dispensing costs. The partnerships must also include the acquisition of brand name prescription drugs and certain medications for chronic weight disease, such as GLP-1 semaglutide, GLP-1 receptor agonist, and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide plus GLP-1 tirzepatide. The bill mandates that health benefit plans offered to public employees and annuitants include optional coverage for weight loss management, including nutritional information and these medications, from January 1, 2027, to January 1, 2032.
