SB 1201: CalFresh: veteran eligibility.
The bill aims to amend existing law to provide benefits to eligible veterans receiving California's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Calfresh). The state department of social services must submit a request to the US Department of Agriculture for a waiver to exclude costs incurred by veterans associated with their job search from countable income. This waiver would also exempt specified veterans from the time limit and work requirements. Counties are required to provide referrals to veterans' assistance and job training agencies, regardless of the veteran's exemption status. The bill also requires reimbursement for costs mandated by the state to local agencies and school districts if the commission on state mandates determines that the bill contains such costs.
