SB 1264: Probate: notice of death for child support obligations.

This bill requires the general personal representative or estate attorney of a deceased person's estate to provide notice of the death to the director of the department of child support services within 90 days if the decedent has a child support obligation. The notice must be provided for estates issued on or after January 1, 2027, if the representative or attorney has actual knowledge of the child support obligation. The bill authorizes a local child support agency to pursue collection of the debt within 4 months after receiving the notice. This does not impose a duty to investigate whether the decedent or their child is subject to a child support order.
