SB 229: Peace officers: deputy sheriffs.
This bill aims to amend a section of the penal code relating to peace officers. The current law defines categories of peace officers with varying powers and authority to make arrests and carry firearms. A deputy sheriff employed by certain counties has limited authority to make arrests and carry firearms, only while performing specific duties or during a local state of emergency. The bill would expand this definition to include a deputy sheriff employed by counties in Amador and Nevada, allowing them to have the same authority as other peace officers in the state.
