California · Senate · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified December 13, 2025

What SB 32 does, verified December 13, 2025

The bill aims to improve healthcare coverage in California by ensuring timely access to care for enrollees and insureds. On or before July 1, 2027, the state departments of managed health care, insurance, and health care services will develop and adopt standards for the geographic accessibility of perinatal units. These standards will help ensure that healthcare service plans and insurers provide adequate capacity and availability of licensed healthcare providers. The bill also requires the departments to consult with stakeholders to develop these standards. The provisions of the bill will become inoperative on July 1, 2033, and will be repealed on January 1, 2034.
