SB 359: Use Fuel Tax Law: Diesel Fuel Tax Law: exempt bus operation.

California · Senate · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified December 6, 2025

What SB 359 does, verified December 6, 2025

This bill amends certain sections of the Revenue and Taxation Code to exempt counties that own and operate local transit systems from certain fuel taxes. The exemption applies to both the use fuel tax law and the diesel fuel tax law. These exemptions currently only apply to transit districts, transit authorities, and cities that own and operate local transit systems. The bill changes the references in the laws to reflect the transfer of duties, powers, and responsibilities from the state board of equalization to the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. The bill takes effect immediately as a tax levy, with its operative date depending on its effective date.
