SB 397: Horse racing: thoroughbred racing.
What SB 397 does, verified February 3, 2026
This bill would allow thoroughbred and Appaloosa horses to participate in quarter horse races of any distance, rather than being limited to races shorter than 5 furlongs. The current law allows thoroughbred and Appaloosa horses to enter quarter horse races at a distance of 5 furlongs or less, under certain conditions. The bill would also change the condition for thoroughbred racing, allowing it to be held at any distance as long as the claiming price is not more than $6,000.
