What SB 502 does, verified February 3, 2026

This bill allows local education agencies to submit available land for affordable housing development. The California Department of Housing and Community Development will review the land and determine its suitability for affordable housing. If deemed suitable, the land will be made publicly available through the digitized inventory. Affordable housing developments on suitable land must provide school district employees and local tenants with a right of first refusal to occupy the housing.
