SB 649: Firearms: silencers.
This bill aims to amend existing firearm regulations. It would replace the term "silencer" with "suppressor" in the law, which generally regulates deadly weapons, including assault weapons. The existing law defines a silencer as a device intended to muffle the sound of a firearm and makes it a felony to possess one. The law also exempts certain actions, including the sale or transfer of silencers to law enforcement agencies. Additionally, the bill would allow for the manufacture, possession, and sale of suppressors, while still prohibiting the possession of a suppressor for certain crimes.
