SB 730: Product safety: consumer products: perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

The bill aims to reduce the use of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in consumer products. It prohibits the distribution, sale, or offering for sale of artificial turf, carpets or rugs, cleaning products, cookware, dental floss, fabric treatments, or upholstered furniture that contain intentionally added PFAS, starting January 1, 2027. Safer alternatives to PFAS-containing products are required to be readily available at comparable costs. The department can designate additional consumer product categories for PFAS prohibitions if safer alternatives are available. Regulations can be adopted within 18 months of their adoption. The bill ensures enforcement by the department through existing authority, including registration, product testing, and administrative penalties.
