SB 734: Criminal procedure: discrimination.
This bill would add a new section to the government code and amend several sections of the penal code. It aims to protect public safety officers from punitive actions, denial of promotions, and revocation of certifications based on court findings related to the California Racial Justice Act of 2020. The bill would prohibit the use of these court findings in administrative appeals and require notification of the law enforcement agency employing the officer if the officer is represented by an attorney in a related case. This protection would apply if the case involves allegations of bias or misconduct by a law enforcement officer.
