A 6828: Relates to providing funding for transitional programs for students from English-speaking Caribbean countries who are not eligible for limited English proficiency programs.
The bill aims to provide funding for programs in New York City school districts that assist students transitioning from English-speaking Caribbean countries to schools in New York State. These programs will offer support and additional instruction to help immigrant students adjust to the new educational environment. The districts must file a plan with the commissioner, detailing procedures for identifying recently immigrated students and outlining services to be provided. Preference will be given to programs that cater to students with limited or interrupted formal education in their country of origin.
