A 6883: Eliminates the $1500 cap on the maximum amount and the gross income requirement for the long-term care insurance credit.
The bill aims to eliminate the cap on the maximum amount and the gross income requirement for the long-term care insurance credit. This means that individuals who purchase long-term care insurance policies can now claim a credit against their taxes, equal to twenty percent of their premiums paid during the taxable year. The credit is limited to $1,500 and is only available to individuals with a New York adjusted gross income of less than $250,000. The credit can be carried over to the following year if the amount exceeds the taxpayer's tax liability, and it can be deducted from the taxpayer's tax for those years. The bill takes effect immediately and applies to taxable years beginning on January 1, 2025.
