The Public Transit Safety Act aims to improve the well-being of bus drivers by requiring them to take regular rest periods. This law applies to bus drivers who operate vehicles with a seating capacity of nine or more passengers, including those for hire or profit. The law mandates that bus drivers take a minimum of ten-minute rest periods every four hours or major part thereof, without deducting pay. Employers and employees can establish rest periods that differ from the minimum requirements under a collective bargaining agreement. The law takes effect immediately.
