What A 7151 does, verified January 10, 2026

The proposed law aims to improve the representation of the state's population on the state board of parole and parole hearing officers. The law would require that the board be constituted in a way that the proportion of its members residing in any county is reasonably equivalent to the proportion of the resident county's incarcerated individual population to the total state population. This would be applied to members appointed or reappointed on and after the law's effective date. Similarly, the law would require that the proportion of hearing officers residing in any county is reasonably equivalent to the proportion of the resident county's incarcerated individual population to the total state population. This requirement would also apply to members appointed or reappointed on and after the law's effective date. The law would take effect on the 60th day after it becomes a law.
