What A 7205 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill requires storage warehouse operators to maintain a separate lock box for storing official government documents, such as birth certificates, passports, and visas, at no extra charge to the customer. The lock box must be kept separately from other items in the storage unit and the contents must not be retained or disposed of regardless of non-payment of unit rental fees. The warehouse operator is prohibited from including documents stored in the lock box in the auction of the contents of the storage unit in the event of non-payment of unit rental fees. Additionally, the warehouse operator is required to surrender the documents in the lock box to the renter upon request, and refusing to do so would constitute an unlawful detention of goods.
