Assembly BillIntroduced
A 7292: Directs a health maintenance organization which denies a claim due to absence of medical necessity to inform the insured as to preferred alternative treatment, or provide the insured with a statement as to the past ineffectiveness of the requested procedure or treatment.
What A 7292 does, verified January 8, 2026
The bill aims to require health maintenance organizations (HMOs) to inform insured individuals about alternative treatment options when a claim is denied. When an HMO denies a claim due to the treatment not being medically necessary, they must inform the insured about the preferred alternatives that would be covered. The HMO must also provide a statement explaining why the requested treatment was deemed ineffective. This information will be provided to the insured once the bill becomes a law.
