What A 7474 does, verified January 10, 2026
The bill requires drivers to exercise caution when approaching stationary emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or highway maintenance vehicles. Drivers must approach these vehicles with due caution and, if possible, change lanes to avoid them. If a lane change is not possible, drivers must reduce their speed to a reasonable and proper speed for existing road and traffic conditions. Drivers are also required to be prepared to stop their vehicle. Violating this requirement can result in a fine of up to $500 for subsequent offenses. The bill does not exempt authorized emergency vehicle drivers from their duty to drive with reasonable care for all highway users.
