A 8522: Enacts the "guaranteed reservation protection for rental car customers act"; provides that a rental vehicle company shall not charge any authorized driver a rental rate higher than the rate quoted in such driver's reservation.
The "Guaranteed Reservation Protection for Rental Car Customers Act" aims to protect consumers from unfair rental car practices. The law requires rental vehicle companies to: * Not charge authorized drivers more than the quoted rate for the reserved vehicle, unless explicitly authorized. * Provide a vehicle of equal or greater value if the reserved vehicle is unavailable, at no additional charge. * Reimburse drivers for reasonable transportation expenses if the company cannot provide an alternative vehicle. * Inform customers of these requirements on their website and visible signs. The law takes effect 90 days after it becomes law, and the amendments to the General Business Law will survive the expiration and reversion of the section.
