What A 8558 does, verified September 28, 2025
The bill aims to amend the Village Law and the Public Officers Law to allow the village of Croton-on-Hudson to appoint an assistant village engineer without requiring the person to be a resident of the village. The assistant village engineer must reside within Westchester County, an adjoining county in the state, or within Dutchess County. This change is intended to provide more flexibility in the appointment process. The bill also clarifies that a person holding the position of assistant village engineer must still meet the residency requirements for the municipality where they perform their official functions. The changes will take effect immediately.
