What J 1345 does, verified January 18, 2026

This legislative body is memorializing the governor to proclaim September 2026 as Preparedness Month in the state of New York. This is done to encourage individuals to plan and prepare for emergencies, as well as to support blood donation and the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross is the United States' premier emergency response organization, founded in 1881, and relies on donations of time, money, and blood to provide disaster services. These services include medical help, food safety, water treatment, financial assistance, and emergency accommodation for victims of disasters such as fires, floods, earthquakes, heat waves, and hurricanes. The governor is asked to observe Preparedness Month by taking action and having a plan in place before a disaster happens, and to keep pets safe from danger and communicate efficiently during a disaster.
