S 352: Relates to the use of fluoroscopy by physician assistants.
The bill aims to expand the role of physician assistants in medical imaging procedures. A new subdivision 20 is added to the Public Health Law, defining fluoroscopy as an X-ray-based technique that allows real-time imaging of instruments, dyes, or body parts during diagnostic or treatment procedures. The bill allows licensed physician assistants to engage in the use of fluoroscopy for guidance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, provided they have completed a specific educational program and a competency exam approved by the department. The bill also updates the Public Health Law to permit quality control tests and radiation therapy treatment planning to be performed by individuals not licensed by the article. The changes take effect on the 180th day after the bill becomes a law.
