What S 4714 does, verified January 9, 2026

The bill proposes to amend the county law to allow a county where a decedent resides to seek reimbursement for services rendered and fees generated by the coroner, coroner's physician, or medical examiner from the county where the decedent actually lived. This means that the county where the decedent was found may not be responsible for paying these costs, but the county where the decedent resided may be able to recoup these expenses. The bill takes effect immediately, allowing counties to implement this change starting from the date of its enactment.
