What S 5233 does, verified July 2, 2025
The bill aims to limit the shift between classes of taxable property in the town of Haverstraw, County of Rockland. It does this by setting a cap on the annual increase in the current base proportion of any class. This cap is one percent, unless the town has passed a local law allowing for a higher increase. In cases where the cap is exceeded, the legislative body of the town must adjust the current base proportion to ensure the total sum of proportions equals one. The changes take effect immediately.
