Senate BillIntroduced
S 5385: Permits the commissioner of motor vehicles to require any licensed driver to submit to an examination or reexamination prior to such licensed driver's normal renewal date upon receipt of a recommendation from a court having jurisdiction of traffic offenses, or the governor or chief magistrate of a state or territory stating that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle safely is questionable.
What S 5385 does, verified January 8, 2026
The proposed law aims to enhance road safety by requiring drivers to undergo examinations or reexaminations before their regular renewal dates. This can be triggered by a court's recommendation or a governor's/chief magistrate's statement that a driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle safely is questionable. The commissioner will review the driver's qualifications based on their driving record over the past ten years. The law will take effect immediately.
