S 6181: Clarifies that employment at any licensee under the cannabis law satisfies employment requirements for parole, probation or other state supervision unless the terms and conditions of said parole, probation, or state supervision explicitly prohibit such employment.
What S 6181 does, verified March 6, 2026
The bill aims to amend the cannabis law in New York to protect individuals under parole, probation, or state supervision from being punished for cannabis use. It allows individuals under these conditions to use cannabis unless their supervision explicitly prohibits it, and prohibits such punishment unless it's shown by clear and convincing evidence that it's related to the underlying crime. The bill also permits individuals under parole, probation, or state supervision who need employment as a condition of their supervision to find employment at any licensed cannabis business. The changes take effect immediately.
