What S 8268 does, verified January 8, 2026
The bill aims to protect homeless families with dependent children in Westchester County from being required to contribute their earned income in order to receive temporary housing assistance. The state cannot reimburse Westchester County for temporary housing for these families at a rate less than 100% of the cost. This protection does not create any additional requirements for Westchester County to provide temporary housing assistance. The bill will take effect on January 1st of the year following its passage and will expire two years later.
