What S 8477 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill proposes to amend the Alcoholic Beverage Control Law to allow for the provision of on-premises alcohol consumption licenses in certain locations. Currently, these locations are restricted to within two hundred feet of a building exclusively used as a school, church, synagogue, or other place of worship. The bill would allow for these restrictions to be waived if the owner or administrator of the school, church, synagogue, or other place of worship provides affirmative support for the issuance of the license. This change would apply to various types of licenses, including retail, special, bottle club, restaurant-brewer, and cabaret licenses, provided they are not located within a city with a population of one million or more. The bill would take effect immediately upon passage.
