What S 8606 does, verified January 12, 2026
The proposed law aims to establish a new standard for the duration of rate-setting orders for gas and electricity in New York State. It seeks to ensure that these orders are in effect for a period of three years, rather than the current indefinite duration. This change is intended to provide greater stability and predictability for consumers and utilities. The Department of Public Service will be responsible for implementing and promulgating the necessary rules and regulations to carry out this change. The law is set to take effect immediately.
