Senate BillIntroduced
S 8694: Requires the metropolitan transportation authority to install solar canopies on its parking facilities.
What S 8694 does, verified January 31, 2026
The bill aims to require the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to install solar canopies on its parking facilities. The MTA must calculate the total amount of suitable parking space for solar canopy development and set a distributed solar energy goal to use at least 75% of eligible parking facility space for solar canopies by 2024. Starting one year after the effective date, any new construction project that includes a parking garage or lot must install solar canopies, unless the MTA has already reached the 75% goal.
