What HB 583 does, verified September 24, 2026

This bill aims to provide online library database resources to public schools, public libraries, and state agencies. It rewrites the law regarding the provision of these resources and introduces new sections. The bill allows the attorney general to investigate potential acts or practices that violate the law. A report made under the law is considered a public record. Existing contracts entered into for the provision of these resources must be filed with the director of education and workforce. The department of education and workforce will make the approved contracts available on its website.
